Steve Caya is dedicated to producing results that help clients rebuild their lives and secure their futures in the wake of unexpected tragedy. A lawyer with a personalized approach, Steve partners with clients at a difficult time in their lives to not only devise a plan for their case, but a financial strategy for the remainder of their lives.
“…An injury or accident happens in seconds, but the impact can last a lifetime…”
Clients who desire a long-term vision to move forward after their accident especially appreciate Steve’s capabilities to engage other professionals and partners within his law firm, Nowlan & Mouat LLP, who specialize in tax issues, estate planning, and other legal services that are often needed to develop a post-accident future for Steve’s clients.
Steve focuses his practice exclusively on personal injury. He has handled a variety of lawsuits in both state and federal court arising from automobile accidents, bicycle accidents, motorcycle accidents, defective products, nursing home neglect, faulty construction practices and wrongful death. Steve has tried numerous cases throughout Wisconsin and several of his cases have resulted in published decisions by the Wisconsin appellate courts.
What makes Steve unique among those practitioners who represent accident victims is that, for the first twelve years of his career, Steve was a partner in a Milwaukee litigation firm representing insurance companies. Steve’s insight and experience in representing insurance companies provide his clients with a unique advantage when it comes to negotiating with difficult insurance companies.
A partner with the Janesville, Wisconsin law firm of Nowlan & Mouat LLP, Steve graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1986 and graduated with honors from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1989. A board certified civil trial specialist, Steve has been named one of the top 100 Trial Lawyers in Wisconsin by the American Trial Lawyers Association and is one of only 80 Wisconsin lawyers invited to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has also been recognized consistently as a Wisconsin Super Lawyer by SuperLawyers magazine.
A motorcycle rider himself, Steve is well-known in the community for representing bikers who are injured in accidents. He understands firsthand the personal biases and legal difficulties bikers—and injured people in general—can face. Steve readily shares his passion for riding and is proud to provide strong support to bikers who have suffered injuries. Steve is active in several motorcycle groups, including the South Central Wisconsin HOG Chapter. Steve is also a sponsor for the MDA Tub Run as well as a committee member. Steve is also active in the community as a board member for Friends of Noah, a non-euthanasia animal rescue, and is a board member for the Janesville Excellence in Education Foundation.
